The movie features Stanley Sugerman (played by Sandler), a basketball scout having a tough time in his career. He heads to Spain. There, during an outdoor court match, he spots an exceptional player. His team won't listen to him about this player, so he brings Bo (Hernangómez) back on his own and tries to get him drafted.

Let's dig into how the movie ends. Bo's ex - partner, Lucia's mother, after learning from her new beau that getting full custody of Lucia (played by Ainhoa Pillet) could get her government money, wants to do just that. When Bo goes to her place to talk it over, he gets into a fight with her new man.

Stanley once had a drunk - driving incident in college with his old friend Leon Rich (Kenny Smith). His car hit a pole. To stop Leon from flying out the window, he put out his arm which got badly injured and he spent six months in jail.

Bo is ultimately selected for the NBA and becomes a part of the Boston Celtics. This is quite apt as the actor who plays Bo, Juancho Hernangómez, played for the Celtics from 2021 - 2022 and has been traded twice since, to the San Antonio Spurs and currently to the Utah Jazz.

Bo and Stanley develop a very strong bond. Bo gets a tattoo of an oak tree with "never back down" written below it. Besides this, he only has tattoos for his mother and daughter.

Stanley also gets his job back as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers. In the end, the 76ers play against the Celtics where Bo is on the Celtics' team.

In the final scenes, Stanley is getting ready to coach in the game between the 76ers and the Celtics. He's on the phone with Alex, who is at a sports bar to watch the game while attending film school and support Bo and her dad.

Before the game, Stanley and Bo greet each other fondly. We can see Bo's new tattoo in honor of Stanley. Also, before the game, Stanley gives some tips to one of the 76ers players on how to play against Bo.

During the credits, we see a basketball game among many of the movie's players like Hernangómez and Anthony Edwards (who played Kermit Wilts). The credits also show old footage of NBA legends like Dirk Nowitzski, Allen Iverson, Shaquille O'Neal, Charles Barkley and Julius Erving (Dr. J).
